MONKI

In Sweden, Scandinavia, we have a company called "Fabric Scandinavia" and since 2008 they are a part of the big clothing fashion industry H&M-Group. Fabric Scandinavia is mostly designing clothes for the younger population and has become very big due to there unisex clothing, experiments with colors and pattern but also for their more independent style. Fabric Scandinavia has a few own brands that are well known, among them are Cheap Monday, Weekday and Monki the biggest. Below I have chosen three pictures from the store Monki. They are not only trying to sell and show you clothes but also by creating these black little creatures in their little world you can see that they are working a lot with design and to create a certain feeling for you as a costumer.

MORE ERWIN

This is just so cool, its amazing how he can put pictures together and create this really interesting image!
Röyksopp is a Norwegian electronic music duo that I listen to a lot and they always have a cool and artistic design on their album covers where they often just use simple shapes and geometrical figures together to create an interesting image

ERWIN OLAF

Erwin Olaf is a Dutch photo artist who is very well known for his way of mixing photojournalism with studio photography. He wants his work to reflect social issues and taboos in a highly stylized and cunning mode of image making. His work is often highly regarded and he has received many awards for his art pieces. One of his  most famous art works are "Chessmen" where each photo represents an image of a chess player piece and I am so fascinated of his sharpness, surrealistic and interesting way of showing them.

This picture is from the movie "Pan's Labyrinth" and I really like the feeling you get from looking at it. Taking some inspiration from the color scale and the shapes of the trees for my composition.

This is a video of a famous Swedish Band called Movits, and this video has given me some ideas for the last assignment

Looking for some inspiration I came to think of the famous surrealist H.R (Hans Rudolf) Giger. He is a Swiss painter, sculptor, designer and interior architect that received an Oscar in 1980 for his creation of the unworldly environments and terrifying life forms in the film classic Alien. I had the opportunity to visit his museum and one of his bars in Chateau St.Germain, a small, medieval village called Gruyeres in Switzerland.

Even though his creations mostly are horrifying extraterrestrial things, which I generally don't appreciate, I am really fascinated by the way he combines creature and machine in his works. Mechanics together with the more natural beings gives his art a clear contrast and a very cool, interesting look.

This is a picture from inside the H.R Giger bar in Gruyeres in Switzerland where you can see more of his furniture and architecture work, which are very fascinating.

Visual Noise 2

After experimenting with different tools and compositions in Illustrator I found it interesting that a very simple shape as a square could look interesting and more complex when scaling, multiply or composite it with other simple forms. I also investigated the sketching tools in Illustrator.

These six components was created using various tools and techniques.

Component One
This was created by rectangles using the Rectangle Tool. By adjusting the colour, size and position of the rectangles it gives movement to the composition.

Component Two
From simple squares a pattern was created. Changing the colours and its perspective makes it more interesting. For changing the perspective I used the Transform Tool .

Component Three

Simple geometries using the Pencil Tool were sketched and then put together into an abstract composition.

Component Four

Using the Pen tool tool an abstract pattern was drawn. The Effect Tool - Stylize gives the image more depth and a cool 3D look.

Component Five

First a sketch is constructed and from that the 3D Tool - Revolve gives it is figure. Here two circles are sketched onto each other and when using the revolving tool a pattern is mapped on it.

Component Six
A circle is created, with the 3D - Revolve Tool. When creating the revolve a pattern is also mapped onto the circle. The circle now looks like a striped ball. Did a composition where focus was on movement, putting the balls in a sort of link. For more depth to the shape, the Effect Tool Stylize (drop shadow) was used, accept for the ball "jumping" in the link.

Visual Noise

This project was about produce a non objective abstract composition.

During week 2 and 3 these designs were made from experimenting with 3D effects, perspective, movement and placement of the three most common geometric figures, the circle, triangle and square .
Some of the inspiration for these I got from listening to a Swedish electronic group called The Knife and their song One Hit.

Experiment 2

Experiment 3

The abstract composition was created by using simple geometries and playing with perspective and 3D effects in Illustrator. (Tools used; Pen tool, Line segment tool, 3D effect - extrude and revolve.)
